I drove Mis B Hav'n during that time. I always wondered what happened to that boat....

What was your impression of the 24? Any stories you care to contribute are much appreciated!

Ted thats a gorgeous rig brother! How well does the RR tow? What speeds are you seeing with the X's?

Sidenote: We ran the Ugly Johns Poker Run here at Grand Lake over the weekend.

Came in 4th place! All 4 of us were Skaters! a 388, a 368, a 28 and my 24.. Beat the hell out of ourselves on all the crosswakes, but we finally got around all the monster V bottoms and hit it! If we had been a little more lined up along side the 28 at the start, we would have got 3rd, we were just a TAD faster than him (Jim Lee in BRING IT) but he had the jump on us and wasn't a long enough run to close the gap!

What a fun weekend! We lost the starboard engine cowl a few seconds into the run.. It got super rough for about a 1/2 mile. My passenger alerted me to it, but there was no turning around in all that traffic so we stuck the sticks to the dash and went on our way. A guy in the back of the pack stopped and fished it out, amazingly it didn't sink. He didn't know who it belonged to. At the lunch stop he saw someone askin me what happened and he brought it over.. I guess the rubber part of the front seal is gone and let enough air in under the hood to lift it off and break the plastic latch area in the back.. Nothin a little duck tape won't cure!

Thx for the compliments guys. Yeah I really like the boat it was redone in 2006. I'll probably be looking for a 28 Skater with 300X's in the next yr or so though, so I can handle a bit bigger water.

Best I've seen so far is 112mph but still sorting out props, should see at least 115 when its all said and done.

Range Rover is rated for 7750 lbs towing.
So it to tows the 5500 lb boat and trailer, no problem, I think it tows better than my 3/4 ton Avalanche did, due to the 15 inch Brembo's, 400hp, and Factory Air Suspension which automatically adjusts for any tongue weight and keeps all four corners level.

I towed mine with a 1/2 ton for a long time.. I hated it. The trailer flexed and carried through the hitch and the whole truck just drifted around.. Too soft of suspension on the 1/2 tons for long towing. Plus I had the tiny v8 in it and couldnt hit 70mph! I recently upgraded and couldnt be happier, it doesnt even know the little 24 is back there..

I love the RR though, thats the perfect package!

Too funny! I towed my 28 home 75 miles from our lake house in a pinch with my wife's 2011 Ranger Rover Sport Supercharged. I was shocked how well it did. Talk about a sight. A small Rover and 28 Skater. I still managed to pass 90% of the traffic:evilb:
She scolded me said I still had to use my 2500 HD!

Range Rover Towing Skaters

Hell man, that 2011 RRSS has 500hp, thats not a chick SUV!:o
Bet the 0-60 with the boat is better than your truck without.
I don't see alot of these Range Rovers or other high end SUV's towing, guess people don't realize how capable they are?

Hey WaterBoy222, are those 300's on your 24 Skater Promax's ?
What props are you running and whats you top speed?
Also Damn you need at least a 36 Skater or larger for that Dually

KEVLARKAT32 08-22-2011 07:04 PM

Sorry guys but you really need a Diesel !! Keep using that RR and the trans will be toast soon

Well I don't know about not being a chick vehicle but my chick can drive a 24 and a 28 Skater! She out ran a motorcycle the other day off the line.

I wanted a bigger RR but she went for the RRSS. The 510 HP is over the top. The RR dealer said the RRS was the #1 choice of women buyers.

I have a 2010 2500 HD with the Duramax and Allison combo it is an awesome tow rig. The boat took a dump on the lake and all I had was the RR to tow home. Your right off the line and up hills it is a beast. I'm with KevCat I would not use it as a tow vehicle for the 28 on a regular basis.

There was a guy from North Carolina in Destin last week that towed his 36 Skater with a 2500 HD. I was shocked he did not have a 3500 Dually. He said it did fine.

BTW your rig looks great!

Skate sounds like your wife is pretty cool.
I'm just messing around, I love Diesel trucks.
I don't think there is that much difference between a 2500 and a 3500 except for higher capacity rear leaf springs and of course dual real wheels, which definitely help haulling heavy loads.
I don't want the expense of another vehicle right now.

Range Rovers are like the least reliable vehicle on the planet but I still love them, I think they are the best looking luxury SUV.
If the tranny blows on the RR, which it may well do, thats ok, that's what the extended warranty is for.
I live 2 hrs from the nearest RR dealer, but they have concierge service, where they send someone to pick up the vehicle for service then bring it back.
When I get a 28 Skater I will still tow it with the RR.

KEVLARKAT32 08-23-2011 08:36 AM

Thats the plan eventually. Bought the shop, the dock and the truck this year. I want a 40 eventually! Grand is just too rough to run the way I want to run and be comfortable!!

Yes, they are the 300 Promaxes with 32p cleavers. Best Ive seen is 107, same as the previous owner. But it buries the rev limiter at about 99 and it takes a LONG time to milk out the last few MPH's.. I need a set of 34's but Just not convinced I need to do 115 in this thing!

Im a rough water kinda guy not really into the top speed thing, especially in this size of cat! Waves that can cause things to get sketchy show up pretty quick at 115mph!:coolcowboy:

Ted Georgiu 08-23-2011 11:33 AM

Yeah it's a bit scary hitting an unexpected boat wake at over 100 in this little 24 Skater.
But its alot of fun pulling away from most performance boats out there in this little toy.
Life Vests, good to see you wearing them.
I've started wearing mine all the time.
This is the smallest performance boat I've owned.
But the Fun-Speed to Dollar-Cost ratio is the highest.

I still can't get over how much attention this twin outboard24 Skater gets even among performance boaters.

My buddy BLEE, set me up with those jackets. He had some extras that he wasn't using and when he found out that I bought a 24, he made sure I got them. Unless we are just running on plane to get across the lake or something, we wear them every time. Every person in the boat.

And as you know, they don't like to be driven at anything between 50 and 85.. so we are either puttering around or haulin balls. The jackets help a lot more than just a sense of security, they hold you in the seats a little bit better I think.

Its a cool feeling to hear from a a big cat owner that "If you learn to drive a 24 the way it was meant to be driven, you can drive ANY cat after that, hell I'd let you drive MINE!"

I was really spoiled by all my friends by the time I got a 24. Within a mile of my lakehouse we have a 388, a 368, two 44MTI's, a 42MTI, a 44MTI Canopy, a 46 Skater, a 28 Skater and a bunch of Top Gun cigs.. And they always gave me a seat anytime I was wanting to go! The problem with that was when I got a 24, I tried to drive it like they do the big cats.. NOT HAPPENIN unless you want an involuntary high speed free sinus flush!
The 24 will give you a reality check faster than a pink plus on a pregnancy test!

Ted Georgiu 08-23-2011 12:06 PM

Yeah and it's real comforting to know that if we die after getting ejected from the boat they can find our bodies quicker if we've got our life vests on.

6k will get you a real nice custom interior from us. I suggest buying the fiberglass shells from Skater, and we will redo them in any color combination you want. We also wandered why the rear bench in these have such a large gap on the sides, so we would widen any by 3" that we redo.

KEVLARKAT32 08-23-2011 09:40 PM

I have the old barrel back seats from skater and I really dont like any Skater seat and I know for a fact that Peter is looking to finally step up his Int across the board on his boats its about time compared to MTI . He pays alot and and know first hand he is stepping up

waterboy222 08-24-2011 08:53 AM

My floor is much different than most of the other 24s.. Theres a partition behind the front seats that comes up about 9" and theres a divider running front to back that make footwells for the rear passengers and hides the cables..

KEVLARKAT32 08-24-2011 08:57 AM

That is how my 32 was and most if not all of the 24 'S Ive seen had this layout . My boat was a race boat and have removed most of this grid in cockpit

waterboy222 08-24-2011 09:13 AM

I guess they are removing it when they do the rebuilds! I kinda like mine..

KEVLARKAT32 08-24-2011 09:15 AM

Not sure what mine started out as but it's all flat now with the Pirrelli rubber floor material on it, looks pretty clean.
Previous owner did it during the refirb in 2006.
There is also alot of room behind the rear seat even with the hatch and compartment behind the rear bench.

I know this is the 24 Thread, but we did this interior update in a 32 Skater. It could be reproduced in any size Skater, or maybe I need to go see Peter myself? Ergonomics, comfort, and lack of any lumbar support is the issue we have found on most older Skater seating.

Have you ever built the back seat where the Lumbar support is removable. When running hard its great but when hanging on the lake or crusing it's hot and uncomfortable. It would be great if you could slide them in and lock in place the remove when you wanted more room.

XT-Innovator 08-24-2011 10:15 AM

Well the lumbar support is the curve in the small of your spine, but removable rear seat dividers would be a cool idea!

Yea, I say it can be done!

waterboy222 08-24-2011 10:36 AM

Very nice int but the head rest will not work for me , kind of looks like E.T . What do you make the rear seat base from ? Wood , pvc or star-board liite ?

No wood! All plastic called Prolite, and we still reuse the Skater fiberglass rear seat shell, just made it 3" wider. Agree on the headrest, and it would be redesigned.

Heres a video from LOTO. This was heading back to Dog Days from SkaterFest on thursday so the water was still VERY VERY mild. The run from captain rons back to dog days on friday was so rough he couldnt hang on to the boat and the camera at the same time. But theres a couple of 100mph blasts and circling around to catch up to Jay from Naples Image and give a wave!
