Hey MDG,
I have been following your threads, and its a great looking project. I think the Y2K is a perfect boat for your area. A true offshore boat but reasonably priced and can handle anything the bay can throw at it. I have one of the first Y2ks made ( maybe the first ) and have had this boat set up as a factory one with hp500 and bravoXR, with a hp500 and procharger and imco drive, A 509 with blowershop250 (MRD 725 hp), with a blown 515(Kurts Marine bandit 750hp) and now a 515 with a blowershop250(smittys Wazzup racing). I have tried over a dozen drive heights and combinations, Imco shortys and started adding spacers, bravoXR as well as sportmasters. I also have tried over 20 different props. The boat has been in for testing at some of the best shops in the east , Ocean outboard, MRD motorsports, Kurts Marine Bandit Racing,Smittys wazzup racing. They all loved the hull. I have had my brain picked by most of the guys in here and we all know every hull is different but I have gotten lots of general info that may help you in your set up.They arent the fastest hulls around but set up right they are fast and amazingly stable at speed. I am not the fastest hull, my best was about 93 gps with 750hp, but im sure i have had the most combos in one hull. I may have had the most seat time as well as a few races In OPA, but I have been sidelined as of late with bad health. Best of luck and any questions fire away.

Hey jcap, sorry to hear about your health hope every thing goes well for you, just keep fighting! It sounds like you have a lot of knowledge of set up on y2k and any input would be great. My set-up would be close to your 750 bravo combo(konrad 40-50less hp at prop).Weight of my motor/drive a little heavier than yours. My engine uses aluminum heads and no blower.John at superboat says around 17.5x on bravo raise up1-1.5 for 8inch box(i am using this as a refrence point for konrad)What did you find out when playing with x with the 750hp ,when you went up to high did you loose speed from lack of bow lift? The changes in the bottom will hopefully give more bow lift at high speeds with less trim, what prop did you like?Top speed is important but great handling and rough water performance is more important.

my hull didnt like a high x,my prop shaft is 4 inches below keel, and i lost 7 mph when I tried a 2 in shorty. I ran fastest with a 1in extension on a standard XR lower, That put the prop shaft at 5in below lowest point of the V. The konrad with its transmission may set a little deeper, but with the short lower you may need an extension. The changes in the steps Rick made look great, but I dont think they will change the need for bow lift. Bravo props worked well but my best prop was a hydro P5x. My fastest was bravo32 5800rpm 93.2 gps. I have tried rightys but the boat definetely prefers left hand props. P5x props seemed to run just 1 or 2 mph faster but much better hole shot and amazing handling difference.

Jim, Your hull is the former Y2K hull. The New bottow will have NO problem with bow lift, Different hull. Only 2 steps, opposed to 3. And they're deepre then yours. This hull will have no problem with BOW lift. I know the new hull is going to be faster, but how much...... We don't know...............

Hey jcap, thanks for the pics and info ,i have found that most single engine boats run the best at prop shaft right about were you have it 4-5 below bottom, too high no bow lift-speed loss.I once set up a 27 excaliber set the x real high, prop shaft 2 bellow bottom, hab trouble coming on plane, handled like crap and was slow. we played with spacers and ended up lowering unit 3 inches ran and handled much better.Back then 5-6 blade props were not available yet.Hydromotive makes good props and they are good to work with,I have a set of p5x 31pitch might start there.

My shaft is also 5" below the bottom. I tried the PX5. Had better cruise speed but lost up top. I also tried a Maximus. Speeds were the same but needed way too much trim and handled poorly.

With the new bottom your going to have to do your own testing to see what works for you. Can't wait to hear how she performs!
