So John,Rick what number hull will this be of the Y2K series? And what number would this be with the modified steps? Going back thru my old build thread I see SUPERSTITIOUS was #19, and one of the last if not the last of the original step design, is that correct? Inquiring minds want to know! Great trivia you know....

I'm not sure of the exact number. I'll ask Coen, and get back to you on it.

Or the 400R! 😉

SUPERSTITIOUS 07-13-2019 06:55 AM

She’s a beauty!
I was having a conversation with John last week, confirming this will be a 2020 Hull #. I requested as he breaks out his book of registry, if possible he could research those production # questions, off the top of his head he couldn’t answer. Heck we’re all getting older and time is flying by...
I’d love to get the stats. While i’m thinking about it and while I can.....

SUPERSTITIOUS 07-25-2019 09:38 PM

I come to find out that superboat was established in 1970, 50 years of building boats! Making this a 2020 “50th” anniversary edition Y2K 👍🎂

SUPERSTITIOUS 07-26-2019 05:32 PM

Dan form Rolls Axel delivered the trailer yesterday. So on to fine tuning the trailer for proper fitment. Thanks Dan!
In the interim John, Rick and I have decided on a custom Stainless marine bracket for the transom to attach the Bobs machine doublejack jack plate, due to the limited real estate/narrow 7’ beam, the size and swing of the 380 K planes, and the need for a bit of transom space for the water pickup for the ballast tank. Build time will be about 4 weeks.

AZMIDLYF 07-26-2019 06:08 PM

What will the weight of the bracket be?

Good question I'm not sure and can't find a comparative listed thru Stainless Marine. On the the last outboard build John used their standard 23" twin bracket, which overall worked well with motors bolted directly to it, though had some interference problems with the k planes. On mine, initially john wanted to build a coosa and fiberglass box. Even started a mock up. The double jack is 150 lbs and 44" wide and 7" setback in addition to raising the motors 3" All while trying to keep 40 max wide on the transom, Considering all the limitations seems a 12" custom bracket is what we'll end up going with so 19" overall setback. here's a pic of the last setup.

AZMIDLYF 07-27-2019 08:33 PM

Do you already have the jack plates?

SUPERSTITIOUS 07-27-2019 09:11 PM

AZMIDLYF 07-27-2019 10:38 PM

Nice. If you didn't, I was going to recommend looking at a Porta bracket. Set back and jack plate combined.

yes we have the double jackplate. I'll have pictures tomorrow of it with the beautiful Rolls trailer.

SUPERSTITIOUS 07-28-2019 07:11 AM

AZMIDLYF
I have seen those but I thought the double jack was more robust also the ability to trim/jack both outboards in unison was to me, the key and beauty of the Bob’s double jack.
Thanks four your suggestion.

SUPERSTITIOUS 07-28-2019 07:25 AM

Thanks Rick I look forward to the updated photos. I wasn’t aware but in conversation with Dan from rolls axle trailer he’s extending the forward/aft I beams further back than he used to, the He has gone from 5 inch to 6 inch aluminum I beams as well, also with additional crossmembers extending to the end of the rear bunks for better support. I also went with 15 inch E rated tires, as I did have issues with the 14’s on the last trailer.

Thanks for the pictures Rick. I spoke with Dan at Rolls Axel today. He will be coming back to move the Axle(s) back. I texted you a picture and you’ll see the current rear axle is where the front axle was on my old boat. By moving the front axle behind the other we should have the same set up as last which towed fantastically. The question now with motors and bracket hanging off the transom as opposed to the I/O should we consider moving both axels back further? JC did say on the last outboard build the axels were centered where the step is. He says he has a picture. From the picture above we may be there with flipping the front axle to the rear. From the picture I’m not sure if the boat needs to go any further. forward.

Gary you're going to be very happy with the Bob's double jackplate... I am with mine.

Thank You! Funny you should say that. Even with our phone conversations one of the pressing questions was just that. We cover so much and I get off the phone and realize I never asked... As that's how I found out about it, from your thread. I've got a few questions and will give you a call...

Photo courtesy of Rick!!! The new transom insert was completed and installed, the deck went on, thru bolted and glassed. The ballast tank plumbing has been completed other than the discharge. The Zieger tilt helm is in. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...6d5fc0356.jpeg

Gorgeous Gary, Friggin gorgeous.....

SUPERSTITIOUS 09-09-2019 08:47 PM

From the guy who started the black Y2K trend that means a lot! thanks Cary!!

bulletbob 09-13-2019 05:11 AM

Stunning! The lines of the hull are awesome. It looks like its doing 100 mph sitting still.

SUPERSTITIOUS 09-17-2019 11:23 PM

Thanks Bullitbob.
When speaking with John today, he finally heard back from Mercury on the 300R’s. They are now saying availability will be January. I’m just happy to get some sort of a commitment at this point. Unbelievable..... Let’s see if it holds true. For the time being I just have to be satisfyed with it looking like it’s doing 100.

bulletbob 09-19-2019 04:43 AM

Randy Courson (Wildman) on Scream and Fly can get you some 300Rs'. I bet he has them in stock. Tell him Bob from Lake Murray suggested you call him if your interested. He is a good guy, great painter and rigger.

SUPERSTITIOUS 09-20-2019 08:36 PM

Thank you for the insight. I do review his builds, the liberators certainly rock. I have asked myself how the heck is he getting them. Initially JC thought he had a line on a pair from a connection in Florida. We lost time waiting for them to pan out, it never happened. I have had a few leads with some ridiculous prices, no thanks... The seasons pretty much over. I’m waiting on a custom stainless marine bracket to be delivered. I had a 6 month turn around on my 1st Y2K build back in 2005 and was hoping for the same turn around but not so fortunate this go around. Oh well I’m being patient and I’m pleased how it’s coming out so far.

GRH 09-30-2019 11:34 AM

Just took this off FB.... thought you might be interested

I just got another pair of 20" 300R RH & LH wingplate motors. These have the 1.60 gears. These are DTS motors. $61,500 for the pair. Email [email protected] or call Randy at 386=295-2132

SUPERSTITIOUS 10-01-2019 09:41 PM

Thank you at this point I’m going to wait

SUPERSTITIOUS 10-03-2019 11:36 AM

So my curiosity got the best of me the other day as we wait for the transom bracket and motors etc, so I asked JC if he could weigh the hull as it sits without interior which he did 2800 lbs.... good to know...

Cary 29 10-11-2019 08:13 AM

Gary it was great talking with you the other day. Always a pleasure to compare ideas and setup... Be patient and wait for the process to unfold, it's worth it to see it all come together. You are going to be very happy with the boat and setup that you are doing.

SUPERSTITIOUS 10-11-2019 10:25 PM

Likewise Cary, I appreciate your prospective and insight. It’s good intel on what’s working and what’s not for you. Thanks again for your input and hope you get some time back on the water for more prop testing.

Knot 4 Me 12-13-2019 08:23 AM

Updates?

SUPERSTITIOUS 12-13-2019 02:15 PM

Thanks for your interest. As far as updates, a little bit here and they’re doing some of the wiring and dash layout, got the hardware back from the powder coater for the seat bases as well as a bracing for the transom, working on the plumbing the ballast tank. I have been pressing John to get busy on the vinyl as well. As mentioned earlier we’ve been told January the motors will be available though we have not heard anything since. Will be chasing that after the first of the year. In reference to my trailer I’ve had issue with the length of the trailer overall as the tongue forward of the nose of my boat is exceedingly long for my purposes. Almost a good 5-6 feet, creating a problem where I keep my boat overall Figuring from the back of the motors to the trailer ball equaling 40 feet. Dan at Rolls axel trailer will most likely be picking the trailer up and addressing the issue as its just too long. He has been very accommodating thus far, but it looks like the trailer may take another trip to Florida to fix. So that’s not an issue for now as the boat is sitting on the dolly's in the rigging shop. Overall a little lull in the action but things should be picking up shortly “fingers crossed”.
