New SB 30 ordered
Thanks for the well wishes on the 'general discussion' area - I posted an introductory thread there (copied below).
It was suggested I also post here, so let me know what I've gotten myself into, will ya? Also - I am headed to visit John on May 8th to see his operation and discuss some details - anyone offering a ride in a SB?? John said he'd check around but couldn't promise a ride....... From the other post: Just sold my Classic 18 Donzi, ordered a new 30Y2K Superboat from John Coen in NY. Delivery is early June, and I CAN'T WAIT! Got the 496HO, tabs, HD engine mounts, no external steering. No cabin interior, compass, engine cover lift, cockpit cover. John said ~10 weeks so that puts me in NY mid June. I've asked to do graphics very similar (but different) to sb30's scheme - really liked that with the black cowlings and red highlights, bezels. |
Dude, I'm totally amped for you!
From what I am reading these boats hold there value awesome, they look awesome, and run very fast! Looks like you got all the good stuff! Do you live on the east coast? If not have you thought about how to transport the boat? Or are you going for a road trip? :) Congrats again, and you will HAVE to let us know how it progresses, I would be interested to hear it! Oh yeah, the black and red is an awesome combo. Good choice! |
Congrats! I bet you can't wait till it's done.
|
He's road-tripping! How do I know? I'm most likely his co-pilot, if my schedule permits...
|
Congratulations krakmeup!
I am sure you will enjoy! |
Thanks all!!
Excited is an understatement - JC will probably get tired of me calling!! As for delivery - you got it, Mirage - ROAD TRIP! Went to Minnesota for the Donzi and back in 72 hrs, so NY should be a walk!! I live on the Texas gulf coast, where we boat a solid ten months per year, and all twelve are do-able on the cruiser. We do about 200 engine hours per year, so you know we're out there every weekend!! I'll post any and all details, and keep you all (y'all) posted. I'm looking for a ride on May 8th from someone on L.I. if they want to share their SB for an afternoon!! Can't wait, can't wait...... Christmas wasn't even THIS bad! :) |
CONGRATS ON THE BOAT.I BOUGHT MINE FROM TEXAS AND TRAILERED IT BACK NEVER UNDER 75 MPH.I LEFT SAT MORNING AND ARRIVED BACK ON L.I. SUN NIGHT.I WOULD GET AN ALUMINAM TRAILER.BIG DIFFERENCE IN WEIGHT,MINE ALUMINAM WEIGHED 1050LBS FOR A TOTAL WEIGHT OF 5500LBS TRAILERED.SUPERBOATS TRAILER GREAT,EVEN MY WIFE WHO NEVER DROVE A TRAILER BEFORE WAS GOING 80.CONGRATS AGAIN :D

Hey krakmeup,
The Zuperboat came off Lake Conroe. Do you fellows ever venture to the lakes? My Dad lives on Lake Conroe and I'll be down in you neck of the woods in October for my little sister's wedding... Only know of three Superboaters with 30' I/Os on this board: Jcap, Super30, and Zuperboat. The Zuperboat is being re-rigged, Super30 lives in Mass, Jcap may be ready, but I think he is getting new power too. Hopefully John has his race-boat or someone else lined up for you... :) |

Thanks Zuper, Pat, good to get to know you guys on the forum - let me know if you get this way in October, Pat, we should definitely tag up. We can get to the lakes, but Conroe is 1.5 hours away versus 5 minutes away for Clear Lake, so you know which wins.
I'm still waiting on at least one more quote on a Featherlight trailier, but for sure I will buy an aluminum. The 5800# capacity trailer is called a 7000#, but actual carrying capacity is nominal at 5800#, make sense? I'm getting to be too much of an expert on something I don't normally pay much attention to! Anyway, it's all good info, and I now feel like an educated buyer, so I'm moving on. Will post what I get and details as soon as I can. |
Oh, Sorry about that Fast-Eddie!
Hey BODYSHOT1, I e-mailed the Jersyboyz with on responds. Any idea where the LI Sound race in August will be? |

Best bet would be to email Ron P for quick answers!... [email protected] per the schedule, looks like Aug 28-29....I believe they are still working on securing sponsers up that way. Marty  |
congrats
Congrats!
Nothing better than the smell of new gel coat!! I just repowered, testing this week, and should be ready before your new york trip. My boat is set up differently from yours, but I would be glad to take you for a ride.Sounds like a great boat, only thing i would have added was full external steering. Its a safety thing and a thirty is a big boat for a single and handling around the dock can be challenging. If your like most of us you will soon be looking for more speed and the standard rule is over 70 mph needs full hyd. steering. You are probably over 70 now. And remember this isnt texas , bring a jacket, long Island in early may is still chilly. What drive ? The XR is worth the upcost too .What does John say the boat will run with that set up? Jim Capie 1- 516-351-7235 |
TOO COOL!!
Thanks Jim for the offer!!! - I'll be visiting John on Sat May 8th, so I'll give you a call a day or two before, sound good? No prob on the weather - I'll be prepared. It would just be too awesome to get a ride in any SB, so thanks in advance! The drive is standard Bravo, and John says it's 75 mph as set up - some of the posts I've read would suggest more like 72, but the GPS will tell. I'll have to feel out the mods like external strng and an XR - that'll give me incentive to blow the stock system up (kidding!!). My parents are in the area and I'll drive to NY early Sat morning, spend time with JC and then maybe we can meet up? Now I'm really getting psyched!!! Thanks! Keith Cell: 713.494.2630 |
Congrats & Good luck bro...

sounds good Keith, I doubt that you will see 75 but 71, 72 is probably more likely, you will find that these hulls run faster in the rough, a little air under the hull works , My boat is at Kurts Marine in NJ, but should be back on long island before the 8th .We tested today, she ran strong but still needs tweaking. Ran 89 on the GPS with a 32bravo.Trying a 5 blade hydro tomorrow

Jcap,
I'm thinking we will see a little more air then that this Summer. 89mph sounds pretty darn good. Sounds like you will have her running 90+ soon...:D Did you up the power this year? |
OK, thanks Jim. I'm about to take this PC down to install Windows XP, so I don't know when I'll be back up. I'm looking forwad to the trip, my dad will be with and he hasn't been around the boating world much, but a true lover of fine and fast machinery! Talk to you soon!

Boating Mag did a test with your set up 73 with 3 adults and 90% fuel, so light fuel one person 75 is realistic. Get external steering if only one ram, for safety sake. much better to let John do it. |
Boating mag tested the step hull? or a tempest ? I would love to see that, I thought a 30Y2K never really got a write-up? My hull is built like a tank but its heavy,hp 500 with XR and imco lower couldn't break 80.I know the Zuperboat is much lighter than my hull ,and the rumor is it was close to triple digits with a strong blower motor! Fast Eddie, what does your hull weigh?and whats your power in there now?

It was the Y2K in Oct of 02, I'll take a picture and post it.

let's see, Oct 02 nothing but praise.
|
I wish it were better but that will have to do. # 70.6 full fuel 3 people. 2.2 mpg at 70.6:D
|
I took one of my Labbed 26's and tested the first 30/496 HO's, with John, Big Jim and my self we ran 76 on Merc Speedo, The owner said the speedo was 2mph off, I was very impressed of how it ran.
Jim, my boat weighs 4650 and ran 80.9 before adding the 375lbs that rules required. |
Hey jcap - the trip to NY is still on for this coming weekend (Sat May 8th). I will get to John's place probably around 10-11 am. Are you still interested in meeting up sometime on Saturday? When's a good time to give you a call this week - let me know and we can connect. There has been a delay and so I'm not sure on my delivery date right now - very anxious to see John and his operation, and get a date locked down. Talk to you soon!
Keith |
Hey Kieth, if you can take some pictures!
|
hey Keith,
My boat still isnt on long island, I just spoke to the shop and just a few details still not completed.I might be picking it up on saturday, she is running great and I am actually detuning , its running too fast! i race P4 and cant run faster than 80mph .(Lowering boost to 3 psi and going down to a 30 bravo ,5 psi and a 32 had me breaking 90 for the first time !) so a sunday ride is a possibility. What time are you leaving sunday ? give me a call thursday or friday and I should know for sure when my boat will be completed. Jim Capie |
Mirage - YOU KNOW IT! Camera will be snappin!!
Jcap - OH NO! I'm only there Saturday! Crap!! Sunday is Mom's day and I am combining this trip with going to see folks too (Lebanon, PA), so we are just driving over to LI for the day. #&#@ Will call you Thursday evening, Friday Traveling. Keith |
Hey Krakmeup,
I just left JC,s, picking up my 24 tomorrow(Tues.). There's a 30 Jersey bound getting rigged. I guess your next. I'll pop into the factory for you now & then for photos , if you want. |
Thanks Superbash!! Yes please, anytime you can snap photos would be much appreciated. I am superboat-psyched!
|
You got it! JC may be good behind the wheel, but I don't think cameras and keyboards are his thing!:)
|
ok going to see if i can pick up earlier! I dont think so ,but i will try ! Did you ask john , i dont think his 30 is sold yet? Anybody else can get this texan a superboat ride?
Jim |
Thanks Jcap! I appreciate your efforts! I am calling John today for final coordination - will post later today. I'm planning to get there by 10a, hover for a few hours and then boogie back to PA unless we go for a ride with anyone. I'll be going thru final specs and a few options with John, see what he's got in the shop, and maybe be able to get a few pieces of Superboat goodies. My main goal will be to firm up the delivery date as best as possible, since I have to coordinate travel to return.
Any events in late July planned? I might be convinced to stayin the area for an extra day or two to shake this baby down with some of you folks! |

Whoooweee! Too Cool!! Just talked w/ JC and I am officially sprayed and splashed! Gel coat and first layer on mine are now wet! Thursday is main lay-up, per John. Thanks a million for the pics, Superbash - I'll return favor sometime next week. I come back from NY to two staight weeks of travel, so it may take me a little time to post.
Jcap - John said he might get his son to have his 30 there this Saturday, not sure. Looking good!!!!! Zuper, got your PM and will try to contact you soon, thanks also! Keith |

Finally found some time! Been traveling since my trip to visit John C and see my boat in the mold. What a trip - John was great and unfortunately I did not get to tag up with any one this time, but we'll be back in July to take delivery! Here's the photos - - here goes:
The trip from PA over to LI took right at 3.5 hours, and $14 in tolls on the two bridges! $6 in, $8 out! Wow - had to scramble for the green and threw the coinage on the floor! A new trailer had just been delivered for the newest 30 being rigged inside: |
