That "old GM" will be known as Motors Liquidation Co.

This #1 is an absurdly bogus rating. It is some combination of alledged American $ content times sales....so the Camry is not "more American" than many cars. It just has the right combo of American content AND big sales numbers. This still sounds like BS to me, as I believe some Camry's are still imported?

Either way, this "American content" is all a sham. Everything from the Tier II's down (all the electrical and other expensive parts) can easily (and usually) come from Asia still. They are assembled here by the Tier I who adds little value, and typically is Japanese owned as well, and sold into the American plant. Now, you have a car with a bunch of "American content" despite the fact only a tiny bit of added value is done here, and all the profits of every tier of the chain goes back to Japan. But as long as the "informed" consumer can brag about how "American" their Camry is as they rationalize thejr purchase.

But hey, at least they aren't (over)paying a bunch of money to American workers who in turn spend it back into our economy and live comfortable lives! It's much better to pay Americans LESS and ship more profits back to Japan isn't it??????

Yes but the profits go where? My Dodge truck was made in Mexico but at least the profits go to an American company. I don't drink Miller or Budweiser any more. My beer, Old Milwaukee, is brewed in America. What beer do YOU drink, RacerRPM?

Chuck,

BBB will not be much help. Be persistent with your dealer and Ford. I believe they can and should help you. Squeaky wheel gets the grease. The dealer really needs to get involved.

You got to make a profit to ship any profits to anyone. Last I checked Ford/GM/Chrysler are not doing that. If they do not get expenses back in check then they are screwed. Part of that is going to be UAW dropping their hourly pay in check with what Toyota and Honda are paying.

My kinda guy,

BTW, anyone that knows me, knows, I drink, Pabst, Old Milw and recently Schlitz....gotta keep them breweries that made Milwaukee great..ALIVE

Chuck, good luck with your truck, I cannot believe that this amount of time has gone bye without even one phone call from Ford. I had a Ford and went back to GM and Duramax and have had ZERO problems, can't say the same with blue oval...but that is besides the point, best of luck and hope Ford steps up. Certainly this is a big group listening to the circumstances and outcome that will certainly lean towards any future sales.

Funny thing, Dodge is now owned by Fiat. And what profits are you talking about exactly?

Wisconsin is home to some of the best beer, I agree. However my favorite as noted in my previous post is Miller Lite. Cheers.

True that the domestic content calculation is far from perfect, but it can be used as a point of reference. True that Toyota does import some of their Camry's. It depends on sales volume, but typically less than 10%. 2009 will likely be 0%.

The most expensive parts of a car are in the powertrain (engine and transmission). The Camry engines are made in Kentucky and the transmission in WV. A significant % of supplied parts come from US suppliers (I have visited many).

Not sure where you are getting you information about pay, but if you look at actual pay (money in the pay check) Toyota and the Big 3 are within about 2$/hour of each other. If you combine overtime and profit sharing, Toyota workers actually make slightly more.

You need to do some research on hourly wages because you're wrong. UAW wages are BELOW Toyota and Honda. It's the benefits that hurt the American companies.
