Over all Ford has done an excellent job with these new motors.. I know 89k is not that many miles, but it has been worry free, vs our 6.0 and 6.4 where there was minor BS that cost me money.
I have a buddy in Ms. that has a 2010 6.7L that has been worry free. He got a lot of heart burn out of the 6.0 and 6.4 pulling cabs for repairs on several of his trucks.

"Smoother than the Allison"? My 06, 6 speed Allison feels very smooth to me but this is my first 6 speed auto trans.
Smoother is good to a point as long as the trans holds up and smooth doesn't mean slippage. That trans is an observation of interest to me since the previous 4 speeds didn't hold up as well as they should have for a diesel. This trans is getting a lot more power put to it so we will see how it does. Sure is hard to beat an Allison though.

All I know is all our "Allison" trucks have had tranny's go kaput left and right and usually out of nowhere... the trans is not as strong as Fords thats for sure. I've never really understood the "Allison" cult following? Especially when modded like tuning etc, Torqshift holds up much better, our Allisons that had a tune would start slipping like crazy after a bit. Think Jassman had the same experience as well with their Allisons when we chatted about this in another thread.

Ford did an excellent job with the 6.7 though, gem of an engine and trans is so smooth and quick.

Here's is what I found on every one of our trucks over 200k...and Im comparing our older GMC's as well as our new 11's to the Ford or Torque shifts...

The Allison is a fine tranny, solid, goes into every gear with more pressure or harder than the Torque shifts does. The Torque shifts are way smoother, Kinda like a Lincoln..lol...sometimes to smooth cause you will get a few flair shifts when non towing... and when towing feels just like the Allison non towing..shifts with a lil more authority. The Allison will go into a limp mode, as a safety mearsure......and I have blown three of them over 200k..wheres the Torque shift I have been able to get 25-30k more miles out of them towing the same trailers and such. The Allison, just blows up, comes apart most of the time..wheres the Torque shift just starts to slip badly, and If I can catch it in time, costs me less in repairs...There are pro's and con's to both trucks, Im not brand specific but do lean slightly towards the Fords for our applications//construction, hot shot delivery, and car hauling...I have 4 diesel trucks on the road, Ford 11 F250 and 350.. a 11 GMC 2500, and now cause I want to be Catmans best friend I just picked up our 3500 Cummins HO dually...we will see how that truck does..so far so good.. Good Luck .Jeff

Hey Guys,

Heard some very disturbing news today from a friend that works for Power Train Solutions here in CNY. They are in charge of distributing all reman and replacment Ford power train items in this area. He was just shipped 30....yes 30 6.7PS to keep in stock for replacements do to glow plugs breaking off and destroying the engines internally. He said this is the fix until they find a better fix. He advice on a new 6.7....don't buy one. This fiorst thing I thought of was this thread. I know Catmando usually has diarrhea of the mouth, but maybe he is on to something?

My 01 Dodge had the worst fit and finish of anything I owned...ever. My 02 Dmax was fit and finish great, but I got stuck in the GM injector warranty debate and it cost me a lot of money out of pocket. The new GM has head gasket issues I guess? And the interior is not up to today's size specs.

Keep in mind I am a Ford fan, my last truck was an 05 F350 Harley that I purchased new. 6.0l that failed me more than I wish to talk about. They always fixed it, but had it for some time each time. I sold it 2 months before my 5 year with $32k in warranty reciepts.

My friends 6.4l F450 just went down the road due to many problems that lost him the truck months at a time. He has a new Denali HD

Where do you turn when wanting another $60000 new truck?

My old Ford, before the paiont starting falling off

Here's some more "diarrhea";

I bet that old Dodge is still running somewhere and probly still has the stock motor and tranny, maybe with a few minor parts replacements.

Assuming you're in the market to buy, if I were you I would look for a 3rd gen 2006-2007 6 speed manual 5.9 instead of paying top dollar for a new one. Don't worry about the fit and finish it's the engine/transmission you want, and there is no more reliable engine/trans in a light duty diesel than a 305/625 Cummins and the Getrag 6 speed. I know, I had one.

It's amazing how much stress falls off your shoulders when you have a reliable truck that's not in the shop every other week...

For the ford techs that are On here, you guys know anything about this?

I wonder what percent 30 engines are for that area.
