Dude, I liked fords. My other vehicle is a lincoln. When I sold my 02 Duramax in 05 I bought a brand new 06 F350 Harley crew 6.0l diesel. First thing I noticed was the quality improvement over the GM. My engine turned out to be junk, rear calipers were garbage, paint wouldn't stay on, but over all much better interior than my fisher price GM.
Gas pedal??? that is what you have??? big deal. What about the spark plug problems of ford gas engines? What about any diesel ford engine since the 7.3? They all have issues, toyo just has a hell of a lot less!

problem with diesel now is it really doesnt matter whos makes it they have the DPF and other things which really hurt performance.
Im happy to say I no longer carry the burden of the diesel.

American cars have come a long way in recent years. What my problem with them are is when they refuse to fix known problems. For example....GM. They have a known fuel pump problem. Do you think they will replace the faulty pumps with an updated product...nope...you name them...the astro, cavalier, cobalt, malibu....crap. Even if you buy a factory pump they will fail. Dont even try to run them out of gas..you have only 1 grace time. Next time...new pump.
99.9% of the 94 and up chevy/gmc s10, blazer, jimmy, sonoma driver seat handles are broken. As a matter of fact I have never seen one that is still intact. The part guys know the part number by name. Think they will fix it with the colorado/canyon? Nope I had 2 and both of them broke. Are you telling me that from 1994 to 2012 they cant fix a simple seat reclining mechanism? 18 years? Come on.
Ford ranger/Explorer.....Are they going to fix those transmissions any time soon? AOD, 4r44, 4r55, 5r44, 5r55?
Now the imPorts....yes they might have problems, but 2 years in they are usually identified and a updated part is manufactured. Not all of the times...but most of the times.
The corolla.....bland...booring....nothing special. But the 1st car I would buy my 72 year old mother. If she wants something bigger i will get her a Camry. Hands down.
Remember when GM issued a statement that they admitted that they made inferior cars and apologized for it? An then asked for our continued support?
I bought a 2007 Chevy uplander van last year....Only thing good about that car was it had a hell of an engine...the 3.9 V6 very strong and relatively smooth. Besides that the rest of the car was pure crap. I had to change..
axles
struts
4 engine mounts
transmission
steering rack and pinion
stabilizer bar bushings and links
rotors
a gasket that let the engine leak 1/2 quart a day
Thank god that GM decided to let that model die.
Now on the other hand...I have a 2005 Dodge durango that has been good to me...Also a 2006 grand cherokee that has been relatively problem free...Only thing...dismal gas mileage.
Had a 2007 Ford fusion..Really nice car with no problems other than a noisy tensioner. Every 2007 Fusion that I have ever seen had has a noisy tensioner.
Does anyone want me to mention Chrysler's Patriot, Caliber, Compass? Front end, mounts, transmissions? Just plain crude.

Ford has always had issues with their diesel, 7.3 was bullet proof but had low power. but the cummins and duramax are bullet proof. The new 6.7 ford I heard is good though. I had a 6.0 and 6.4 and I cant say I had any issues. i think a lot of those issues that guys complain about are self inflicted. Are they keeping up on maint, towing loads they shouldnt, and just about every diesel guy decides he needs to tune or do something else which will ultimately screw up the stock system.

Before they made our fuel low sulfur it was cheap, in 2007 when they brought the dulfur down our diesel became a wordlwide commodity, the old stuff was too dirty for Europe. Diesel went from 1.50 a gal to 5.00 a gallon in less than a year. Took the fuin out of it
Again I miss the power, not the headaches.
My ford was stock and lost 2 egr coolers, 3 head gaskets, 1 turbo, 2 radiators, and multiple injectors. this all happened before 40 k miles towing only my 36 OL on occasion. At 40k the dealer tech talked me into ARP head studs, a programmer, and EGR delete kit.....dealer installed! Power was insane, never had a problem again until 85k when I lost a head again...that I blame on me and the programmer. I loved the truck, but I sold 3 months before the 5/100 warranty ran out. 58 eight thousand dollars and I lost the truck for a total of 5 months over time when in for repair. the loaner taurus would not tow my boat

Was my little checkmate too much load?

I had a 06 Monte Carlo SS, 07 Sliverado, and have a 2010 Camaro with probably 200k between the three and never had a fuel issue. grand father has a astro van with 150k and no fuel issues, towed a 3500lb boat to florida every year as well.
But your point is taken with all auto makers when they know they have a crappy part why do they leave it in there.? But I guess from a business perspective they probably find it cheaper to replace as needed vs get rid of stock and change contracts with current suppliers. As if you make say a million cars a year and only 20,000 have fuel pump issues. your talking 2%, which is actually a fairly good defect rate from a manufacturing stand point, and I dont think GM had fuel pump issues that affected half of their fleet or anything.

I miss the towing power, and the mileage, but the new DPF trucks ruined a diesel for a daily driver.

Let me tell you this EB i have tows the boat no different as far as stopping and going. You do feel the boat more but overall the experience is nearly the same. I think the reason being is the EB delivers all its torque at 2500 rpms and not higher like other set ups. Even when say your tundra or even silverado delivers its torque around 4000rpms its going to do it more in a curve vs straight line right now like the EB which makes a difference.

Yeah the towing was nice but getting 10mpg towing and 12 around town was horrible. plus add 100 buck oil changes fuel filters twice a year, $75 air filters, the thing got rediculous to keep up with.

Don't get me wrong, this truck is more than ample....and will run circles around my old GM 6.0l gas guzzler. Braking, towing, chassis stable, it does a great job, and is better than the POS 2009 F250 5.4l I "tried", that truck is just junk. However, when compared to a diesel towing no gasser compares, even your little eco boost

My FIL has a eco, I have drove it, played with it. I wasn;t terribly impressed but I also had him with me so I couldn't lay into it. Also, I don't really like him....so maybe I have a chip on my shoulder over the truck. Either way the Ford quality is still a step above the GM.

Yea sure do. My Dmax would do just as I said, tow both your truck and boat, and never see less than 10mph. Buy an American diesel truck and you will never waste that much fuel again.
Wrong. I work on everything that drills 200 feet down, reaches 200 feet in the air and has an engine. I am a master tech and I work on what ever moves on tracks wheels or props. I am factory trained by each of the big three domestic mfgrs. All this to say I KNOW these products. I have never been in any auto union and won't be so that is not a bias either. I have been a peer leading professional for over 23 years and I see good design and I see pathetic design. I know what works and what doesn't. I also know business as I have a degree in business which means I went to school anyway,
First I am a LOYAL American! Then I favor a GM but would find my satisfaction in the domestic market because Asian stuff is not American.
If toyota built you a diesel then you could try to compare but they don't and that ricer pickup ain't no American rig. I don't care what you say it is still Asian and NO comparisons or anything else will change that.
Could I would I compromise on some things? Yea some but not Asian markets. If I just had to have an import I would go after BETTER markets and products which would be European builds. I would far rather a Volvo, BMW, or Mercedes than ANY Asian make.
