I will say that the ad is full of BS.
This dude should contact pantera for a job. :angry-smiley-038: |
Curious and maybe I'm outta of the loop in the boat building world ,but when did a paint job and cockpit interior replacement qualify as a "Total Restoration" ???
|
I heard a rumor offline that phil blew an engine ? True or false

He's there.........saw pics all over IG of him cruising around the lake.

Looks nice in the water. Gotta give the kid props for doing what he did with that boat. Hell he made it to loto... I didn't
|
It does look good in the water!!
|
Boat does look good
|
i know the weather in NY sucks but DAM Phil its mid August and you still dont have a tan??
|
19 rollin a nice cig? That was my wet dream when I was 19...I guess in reality it still is. Lol
|
That paint job is growing on me !! Looks a lot better in the water, and at 19 I was happy to just have a car !!!
|
Believe what you want but at 19, I am gonna bet he's got help with having a boat and truck like that, and the funds to spend on the boat and whatever else he does in life, more power to him, I had a 81 Z28 at 17 and thought I was doing good, there is a kid up at our lake that is 16 and rolls a 2008 or so 353 with prochargers.... must be nice huh? best part that kid claims his Formula runs 115.... :bsflag:
|
I said it before, I'm not knocking him but c'mon man, at that age it isn't possible to have earned that kind of money! And if somehow he did, drop the boat shop dream and doing what you do! You have to be making 3 times what you would "restoring" boats
|
I think his ad tells a lot. Anyone with any business sense would have someone proof read the ad prior to placing it. The ad reflects his work, in a hurry to finish things without a plan to get there.

Lots of money for sure - if honest money or daddy's money good for him! At that age I had a full time job just helping my father make ends meet, ! |
Why do people keep giving a fuk where this kid got his money? Even if Dad bankrolled it somebody had to have the idea, the labor, and the skill to do it. Hell, I would bank roll my own teenager in a project like this. It would keep them focused on something better than booze and pills, strengthen our relationship, and teach them things. Even if he loses his ass on this deal, he is going to learn valuable lessons. He could possibly gain more value from failing than succeeding on his first go round.
He took on a large project that most of us would never even try and he saw it through to completion. The finished product isn't my kind of thing but I admire his drive to do it. Most 19 year old kids I see these days can't even figure out how to use the yellow pages. |
It's all good if someone gave it to him. I wish someone would give it to me! Difference is and what I believe most have a problem with is him trying to bs everyone and say he made it on his own. Just like some other guys on the site, "their boat" is really "daddy's boat" that they never even paid for fuel in. It took skill and hard work to even do what was done on that cafe, but don't bs anyone.

I guess to me it seems like the bulk of the criticism seems like old fashioned jealousy to me, but maybe I am wrong. If this kid was 29 instead of 19 doing this plenty of people would be cheering for him instead of hoping the thing pops a motor or sinks at the dock. |
Not jealousy at all, I have always had plenty in life and still do to make me happy. I think many here forgot how the beginning of this all started... I would never want to see someone boat sink and such, I don't wish that on anyone!

Either an established family business that they inherited or family money, where is the bull**** line drawn?

way to much jealously on this thread! if you say you are not jealous of what phil is doing, then you are full of sh#t. you wouldn't keep digging and digging as you are for something negative such as the last comment about what he owes on his truck wtf, grow up. stop trying to justify your negative comments and start a thread about your own pos. tell me why a 19 year old kid couldn't buy a cheap boat that needed tlc. when i was 18 yrs old i was bringing home $2500 a week in the environmental field, it's not hard to do if you have a little drive and a descent work ethic. i applaud phil for what he has done and encourage him to keep moving forward in a field that he has a passion for. as for the rest of the negative nellies on here, i encourage you to find a sport that fits your wallet a little better so you don't have to piss on the one's that do and can afford and enjoy this sport

I can tell you for me it is not jealousy. I'd be a hypocrite to say so because I bought mine at 25 or 26. I owe plenty on my truck. Lots of us don't like the kid because he screwed another member out of the boat that had a deposit on it and then has come on here and acted like a brash idiot the entire time. http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/c...on-tips-2.html See post 43 (and the couple before it where he basically is telling the guy who has a deposit on it that it is junk and the seller is unprofessional). Just a ****ty thing to do to other boaters in my opinion. I have no problem with him having that boat at 19 whether it is his money or his dads. Doesn't matter to me. I plan on putting my cafe on my fathers lift in a 5-10 years and buying a big cat. At that point my kids will be running around here in a cafe before they have a drivers license so I'd be the ultimate hypocrite if I had any ill-will towards him having the boat. I just think his entire approach has been ****ty. |

Aces to seaford as that was my point. I give parts away advice and my time to help any and all boaters. He screwed another boater/member that's guillotine status in my eyes.

I just think his entire approach has been ****ty. This is the thread that never dies. I don't get it really. If you read from post 43 back he's talking about how he was trying to buy the boat and was in contact with the seller. Seller should've started a bidding war is what he should've done! But how is it money talks and BS walks 99.9% of the time except for this instance. One dude puts a deposit down other shows up with cash. Which one you going to sell to? You take a deposit almost as a favor to the buyer in my eye. If I was selling my boat and someone said hey, here's 2k to hold the boat until I can arrange for a surveyor to come and spend the day screwing around with it (causing me a day as well) and then if I like the results I'll buy it. Ok. Cool. Next day second dude shows up with asking price and wants to drive off with it? Yea, money talks. Deposit returned. And I find it hard to believe anyone one this board would sit on a deposit when they have asking price in hand. And on the flip side of that If my deposit was returned I wouldn't be pissed, I'd be a little bummed. But I'd take personal responsibility for not jumping on things quicker. Win some lose some. But you guys are on an endless which hunt. Jesus. Let it go already. I get there was some FB stuff too but since I don't Bookface I wasn't privy to those interactions. I like most dudes from what I've seen on both sides of this "fight". But I gotta tell ya, as an outsider looking in, all I've seen from the kids posts is respectful and honest replies. And I don't see that he screwed anyone else because he showed up with cash when someone else only showed up with a deposit. And I have to chuckle a little that while we're here in OSO hashing this out, where's the kid? He's out boating in LOTO with the boat he brought back to life himself. Irony. |
Tank I respectfully disagree. Deposited us show of faith and a hand shake in my eyes. It shouldn't be about the money, and I understand it's business, but still show good business practice and ethics. If you say you will hold it on deposit you should be a man if your word. I just sends guy a deposit on a truck that's 2000 miles away. For obvious reasons I can't just walk up and pay for it. So done one becomes by and says " hey how much ?"," It's X fir the truck." " ok cool I'm down, let me get a bank check and come back" So I loose out to no fault of my own? Poor business and unfair. Bad karma all around.
