I had a 38' Cig 2 years after getting into boating! lol what does it matter the age... Pretty sure I could have bought a 30 year old Cig for 10k when I was 18 if I wanted to....

cig92 09-30-2014 08:21 PM

pretty sure that comment had nothing to do with you but if you would like to insert yourself into this conversation, by all means, have at it. it was meant for someone that can't stop beating a dead horse. i'm just glad im not 19 with my first boat trying to share it with the osoer's of the world. he may have been a bit too cocky but that was discussed some 40 pages ago, time to let it go.

Cig92 an ICDEPPL. I really like what your saying. This young man did a nice job an learned alot. I learned more with doing it my self than any book can teach me. Hard knocks vs smarts. I don't know this young man at all. God Bless him for having dreams. I was cocky at 19 so I get it. Love the sport an the great people in it. Artie. Ps. Your mailbox is full Cig92

FF... As on pbss. Let it go dude. Half of me wants to hold onto it, do a few more things and sell it In the spring. But it's ok, I'll do what I see fit. And but when it comes down to it... I did you show you, and every other hater.. I proved you and every other guy who didn't like me wrong. Before ANYTHING about the money, it was you and God knows how many other people telling me that I can't build a boat, I can't do glass, I can't do paint, I can't do this I can't do that... Sure, my time line was off because I was used to doing stuff like this for 8+ hr days at my day job. Working 6-4am after working 8-5 starts to slow you down. I finished the boat. And I enjoyed it. I have lots of business coming in from building this one boat. So even if my original plan was to rebuild this, and sell it for a profit... Sure, that didn't happen.. But you know what.. I have 4 cigs, a skater, a 35 fountain getting custom paint this winter all from just doing one boat... Is why I can take a hit and break even. But you know what... That break even number... Where the boat is listed at.. Was fuel expenses for 6 monthes, bar tabs, date nights, my ****inh trip to loto, fuel in the boat is all covered under my break even number. So in the long run, I'm still making money because my living expenses were paid for 6 monthes. But what it comes down to... Is that I'm making a name for myself. I can show up to a poker run or a fun run and people know me. I get to hang out with the big names in my area. I have a growing client list with people calling asking talking looking for boats. Ideas etc. I have suppliers who give me large discounts on products. And I'm ALREADY moving into a bigger heated shop... I'm winning Tim... You said I would be a blimp on the radar, that I possibly couldn't know how to prep and lay paint. Or lay glass, I'm sure with all the time you have you will be able to find those posts you or others said about me. and I'm starting to dig my heels in, so go all you want about my boat... It'll sell eventually.. And I'll do another one. Why? Because I can. And I'll enjoy that one too. I'll keep advertising. And covering my costs. I'll gamble because I'm young and I can. You keep running Lake Erie with your blow up mistress. I'm going to be at poker runs all over the country with many different boats living the dream. Sure. Maybe not making bank now, maybe I never will who knows. But I love what I do.. I get to do things only a hand full of people get to do. I get to buy and sell and customize **** people only dream of owning. and I don't go to work every day at a set time I don't answer to anyone. So sure, critisize my listing, say your right about how I wouldn't make money flipping this particular boat. There's money to be had doing it... That's why people do it. Im sure I'll start to figure it out. I'm sure a few boats from now I'll figure it all out. I'm sure a few years from now things will be a lot different. But just know Tim... That I'm winning.. I did and will continue to Proove you wrong that I can build. :bestwishes:

The only thing 315 proved is all of us "haters" were correct. Keep running illegal business undercutting the rest of us making an honest living.

For all you supporting "a kid chasing his dreams" wait until that kid takes money out of your families pocket..........

This isn't a kid building a pleasure boat for himself. Might want to check your facts and stop skimming the threads. Better yet research other threads about him.

315....I personally hope your dad loans you enough money so you can make your business dreams a reality and eventually turn some real profit and pay dad back.

And don't get to big of a head yet just because your paint looks nice In pictures...... We still have no clue if it actually looks good in person, no clue if it will hold up, and no clue if you or your facility can handle major issues/snags that arrise while working on these high dollar boats.

Please keep posting story's about all your jobs booked so we can have some more entertainment throughout winter!

Full Force 10-01-2014 06:03 AM

If you painted a cig sanding, prep, and shoot in. A week like you said you did, you certainly would not be painting my high dollar cig, skater, or fountain.... I'm sorry but I wanna see how this oaint holds up long term, tell me wgat you want 315, I won't buy into it.... Others have that's fine you show me big boy.... As far as poker runs and traveling hey good for you... I am more then happy in my life, I own homes, all my ****s pAid for, boat, truck, cobra, other vehicles..not daddy's money. I have a family and life besides boating. Yep mines blown up do what? **** happens and it will be fixed there are many people on this site with blown up boats... Who cares it happens...

In the end I will applaud you for the drive that's about it....paint looks good in pics and the test if the boat is still 1989. You have not shown me chit besides all bs I can show up to any big poker run too and get attention with my old pos boat because there are not many mistresses out there with my paint Anymore so don't pay yourself all that much...

Hey good luck kid, hope dad does good in his buisness adventure with you... Because we the haters see past the bs

Keep hacking boats it will bite you, with the post you made bragging you sound and feel like you are already competing with MITCHER T and TOAD .... I cannot believe someone's gonna let you do their skater .... Poor guy

Unlimited jd 10-01-2014 06:06 AM

1 out of 4 big jobs actually show up at your door, and even in the dead of winter people want to see progress. But they don't want to pay until completed. Good luck and hope you have a good amount of working capital. I also see you've changed gears from flipping boats to painting for customers. Much better idea.

Full Force 10-01-2014 06:09 AM

I would love to see the pro Phil people have him work on their boats.... They say it here but if they needed work I bet Phil would not be doing the paint and rigging... Again of course I am will to call that out they can kiss his ass all they want but I gaurantee them boats are done elsewhere.

Biggus 10-01-2014 06:23 AM

This thread makes me sick. Why so much hate here for a young guy with such a passion for performance boats? This "hobby" needs more young guys like Phil with fire in their bellies as face it, we're a dying breed.

FWIW, I met Phil and his Dad at the LOTO Shoot Out last month, nice folks. Phil is a lucky guy to have a Dad that has his back and supports him in his new venture. His boat looks nice up close, he did a great job on the paint. I'm a very particular guy and was very impressed with the quality of his work. ..and at only 19 yrs old, it's just gonna get better I'm sure. Best of luck Phil.

Kurt

offshorexcursion 10-01-2014 07:50 AM

And just rememeber there's more to it then just paint...... What happens when these boats are out in the rough for the while and the body work comes apart under neath that paint......

Rick G 10-01-2014 08:42 AM

I have to agree with Biggus , Offshore I think you have concluded that cocky means stupid , Donald Trump may argue with you . Biggus said it right the kid has fire and desire and the rest will sort itself out in the free market . The comments that surprise me as a Canadian are the bashing of the garage business . I grew up reading and admiring how many American empires started off in someone's garage , good thing for Steve Jobs you guys weren't around cause I might not have the iPad I'm using right now . Time to let this go , just my 2 cents.

Sick Stinger 10-01-2014 09:05 AM

I'm an A hole to the T we all know this so take it as you will. Here is what I see as it sits now. Can he paint? People who have seen the boat say he can. Cool we need some one with drive and talent. Body work prep ect hopefully done correct but I have no opinion as I have no clue what it takes. My cafe took 4 month from front to back after I derigfed it to a bare she'll. 1 week something isn't rite, but again I maybe wrong not my area. Here are the issues I see and I could be wrong:
1. No way you work 8-5 then 6-4 every day to get the boat done. I put in many many hours and I can't do that
2. Insurance is highest priority if you damage , lose, or have an incident with a boat I'm sure you realize the coast of replacing an item what ever it may be or repairing something you damaged.
3. You can not do all the work you self as you state. Impossible , no one can even the best. Parts are to large boats are on trailers most of the time and hight of it sucks getting in and out plus tools.
4. You don't rig as you had some one else do it, which is fine but don't state it's complete in house.
These are just a couple aspects that I see.
I'm fortunate that my fathers shop can accommodate my boating obsession and my parting of boats. It is overhead I don't worry about. But you must tally all over the over head between supplies tooling rent heat( I useca waste oil heater so no $$$ needed). Lot of drive and dreams gotta strive but stop bull****tin. Prove your self rite and everyone else wrong when:
You are in said shop
Have boats there and working on them
Show the spray booth you are building
Have that carbon gun in your possession
Have pets showing a valid buissness and Fire deparment certs for you chemicals that you can legally store on the correct cabinets, I know they are not cheap only reason I say it. Again show legitimacy for you " attempt" as I won't refer to something as a buissness until established then I will do so.
Carry on

88bullet 10-01-2014 09:43 AM

Sick Stinger 10-01-2014 09:52 AM

Was out last weekend still another month to go

phragle 10-01-2014 09:53 AM

The thing he does have going for him.....

You can take swipes at his pie in the sky dreams all day, but how many times has he taken it on the chin and gotten back up to stand toe to toe?? The kid doesn't want an obama phone and food stamps to pay for his bong loads and he is not glued to an x-box, he wants to stand on the deck of a boat he did with his chest out. Thats drive and determination you just don't see in a lot of the youth these days.

Once he settles down, developes some interpersonal and marketing skills, learns to rig etc, imagine where this kid could be in 10 years. He has the talent, just needs to learn the art.

If he took a couple years working for skip, sweeping floors at tnt or taking the trash out at outerlimits, stuck his nose in everything asking "how did you do that" and "why did you do that" he could easily come out of it making stuff we would all be drooling to have.

Phil, its like I learned in racing, slow down and you will go faster. Unfortunatly it took several bad crashes for me to learn that. Once I did that I no longer had to try to be one of the fast guys, I was one of the fast guys.

Interceptor 10-01-2014 10:55 AM

I've been screwed by many people in the boating business over the past 35 plus years. I eventually learned all of them had one common theme, deceive the customer. Reading things said by Phil in this thread and reading the ads gives me that feeling.

Sick Stinger 10-01-2014 11:19 AM

No one said he was a shlep....

I saw the boat in person at LOTO. Cosmetically, the paint looked pretty good.
The trailer looked like it should be in a scrap yard.

Nope don't think so, Phil do us a favor take a couple of years and work with a professional who can teach you a few things, then get back in, start your own business when you actually are ready, with the drive you have you will go far.
