I see new coring going in. Is that in the hull? I was under the assumption that all straight bottom guns were solid glass hulls.. I know the twin steps were cored but wasnt sure about the straight bottoms..

division1 09-21-2020 05:57 PM

Straight bottoms have coring from the cabin bulk head back to the transom. It was news to me to lol

division1 09-27-2020 08:56 PM

Ok it’s getting real!!! Lol parts are going back in like stringers and stuff who would of thought !!!!

Outer fuel tank stringers tabbed in
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...8f34f3362.jpeg
Tabbed I’m lower side then mixed up thicken resin with fibers and let it settle in to fill any voids let that dry and on to tabbing other side and start wrapping with glass!!!
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...238aa1d68.jpeg
Got one layer of tabbing on inside

division1 10-01-2020 07:12 PM

While all that was drying with some help of a good friend got a string line set in the cabin and got a one cabin stringer made. We ran a string line level then measure every foot and transferred that to the board. The main stringers will be 2 layers on 1/2 ply laminated with 2 layers of 1708. I will then wrap them 3 times in the boat should make for about a 1 1/2 wide stringer. It was only a 3/4 ply stringer from factory that should help make it stronger !!

First cabin stringer made. 17 feel long !!!

Helmwurst 10-02-2020 07:09 AM

Where do you find plywood that long?

division1 10-02-2020 07:14 AM

Standard 8 feet sheets. The seams get staggered that’s why it gets laminated makes a strong stringer !!!

division1 10-02-2020 07:21 AM

I build them on the ground and glass them together and then after they dry clean all the edges it is easier than trying to build it in the boat but man some 20 foot long sheets of ply would be really nice lol !!!!

kvogt 10-02-2020 07:24 AM

That is going to be nice when your done.

anything worth doing is worth over doing... ask me how i know lol

division1 10-02-2020 08:00 AM

For sure !!!! It’s been a long process but know that parts are going back in the boat it makes it a lot more enjoyable lol. It really is going to cool to see the outcome and see how it acts with less weight and some more ponies!!!! And not to mention the satisfaction of knowing you built it by hand lol

bigboat28 10-02-2020 08:08 AM

Going to be nice!

glassdave 10-02-2020 09:01 AM

well that all looks fun . . . . :D

thisistank 10-02-2020 11:09 AM

You decide on what the design layout will be in the cabin?

division1 10-02-2020 12:34 PM

Yea I’m going to do to couches in the first section then a surrounding bulk head at the hatches next 8 foot will just be a flat bed. Then forward will be nothing very simple very light weight. But functional in needed to sleep on. I’ll have Xt finish it out and make it look nice. Trying hard to keep it simple light and fast

So a cover girl style basically?

division1 10-02-2020 09:49 PM

Yep that exactly it light and simple!!!

division1 10-04-2020 07:37 AM

Got the to long main cabin stringers made last night test fit and then glasses all together kinda a chore but got a bit carried away ended up doing 3 layers of 1/2 bonded with 1208 from glass dave overall with will be a 2 inch stringer but I figure what the hell it takes a lot of abuse up there and I had the material to do it so why not she’s going to be a tank !

I always thought the cabin in this Baja would have been cool to do on an ex race boat or this type of project. Check out the Simpson netting benches

I bet Xt Dave would may now more about it. The pics were from 2001 powerboat sea trial.

division1 10-04-2020 11:14 AM

Yea for sure I’ll reach out. I’m going to make it nice down there just real simple.this is going to be all all meat and potato straight bottom I have a speed goal in mind and want a wave crusher. I’m over build the cabin stringers and structure so it’s solid in the old Lake Erie!!

Then start wrapping with glass !!!!

Full Force 10-04-2020 08:45 PM

Can't wait to see it done!!

thisistank 10-05-2020 11:14 AM

Hey just a thought, while you have this thing torn all the way down. Have you considered doing the cut out / storage areas in the gunnels on the sides of the rear bench when you get to the cockpit interior? Like a recessed area for a cup holder / storage / LED light / speaker / etc. I've seen a couple guys redo their cig interior and add these recesses and it looks great, is functional and a great use of dead space.

division1 10-05-2020 12:20 PM

Yes absolutely! My interior is all new from Xt tho it’s already done and updates but I am going to do fender storage on the floor in front of the cabin door my tanks are shorter so gives me the room !!! I do love how the new guns have that storage in the rear seat tho!!!!

Bfoodman 10-05-2020 01:31 PM

Looks like you are making fast work of the reassembly. Looks Great!

division1 10-05-2020 03:29 PM

Well it’s going ok it’s just everything takes a lot of time so many steps for one stringer lol

It is wasted space when not utilized, always great to have more storage.
