I think for this season coming up I’ll just finish it like this and next winter make the bed in there

ICDEDPPL 11-23-2019 11:58 AM

That is my take on tank replacements.
75gallons each , usually it takes about 60 gallons .
I was not about to cut the whole thing up to get the old tanks out just opened them up like a tuna can and put new tanks inside .

All the wood got a 1/8" layer of glass .. and now is the time to move the fills to one side makes filling
waaaayyyy easier.

That’s a great point I’ve never thought of that !!!!! In full project mode !!

division1 11-24-2019 07:07 PM

Well boys and girls bets some popcorn cause ****s getting deep full cabin is out saves ever piece going to Put it in the back of the dump truck tomorrow go weigh it throw it all away and then re-wear the truck I would like to know the exact weight of the cabin also decided to rewire the entire boat due to finding multiple wiring problems throughout the years some of the wiring they just ran over top of the stringers and sat the liner down on top of them decided remise will wire the whole mechanical side start over fresh with every wire in the boat we figure after that it should be done close to a new boat we hope lol

once the floor of my tiger was up, my tanks lifted out whole. you will have to unbolt your helms. but if you are working with Dave, you can put the upgraded ones that he made helm molds for like on justins and the yellow gun.

Did your original floor extend to the hull sides?

J-Bonz 11-25-2019 08:13 AM

For cabin ideas you should check out what Baja did to their F2 edition. The used suspended race netting to keep the weight down while giving it a hammock feel. It was really simple but functional. I bet Xt Dave would know what I am talking about. If interested I could dig back into my old powerboat stash over the weekend

yes, ironically we found out that this was the second set of tanks.. I've heard the rumor of tiger tanks with the bump out leaking so I assumed they were original. also the original owner of this boat built a twin step with the same paint job just a year later, i always wondered why someone would do that a year later, the bad tanks in mine were made in 01 by the build tag and had no bump out and the tanks were thin and the work to put them in was shoddy at best. the boat was actually put back together under a bind. When mark was doing it and cutting out the floor the boat sprang into postion while on my myco. i gained speed since then too, so im pretty sure the bottom was a little jacked up from the tank redo in 01...

division1 11-25-2019 09:25 AM

Yes I’m defiantly something simple I’m going to put 2 couches back in and a small bed up front light weight and simple. I really didn’t plan on rewiring entire boat but it kind of just snowballed into that after I started cutting cabin wiring out ended up just cutting all of it out. I do think it will be easier to start from scratch instead of trying to patch up old stuff

frickstyle 11-25-2019 12:06 PM

dear lord.

That's all I have to say about that!

frickstyle 11-25-2019 12:38 PM

How does your boat run? Flat or ass-end heavy? I know mine runs very heavy in the rear, bow high, but I do have a different setup and yours may not run like mine does. It requires tab or a heavy throttle hand to run it right and fly level. With your deeper drives, this may not be the case.

Just something to consider if you are removing all that weight from the nose.

Has anyone added a water/ballast tank to the front of a Gun?

division1 11-25-2019 12:52 PM

Lol could be worse.......

division1 11-25-2019 12:55 PM

Mine gets on plane and run flat with drives in neutral position I am taking weight out of the front. But I am also putting bulk heads and things back in. Moving fuel tanks up 30 inches. It should balance out. Also talking about moving to a semi stagger and moving port Moter up 12 inches. Boat will a new learning curve to run but it seemed to really like 5 blade 30s before and ran very well and level.

division1 11-25-2019 12:58 PM

I do plan on putting to facing bench seats and one bed in so there will be weight there but I just wanted to get ride of the liner. After cutting it all out I see why they move so much. Not much holding them in I am putting one large bulk head directly behind dash that ties both sides together. That will keep that area tight looking to do something like this

Well it’s officially a bare hull all cabin and every wire from the boat is out time to start grinding and putting bulkheads back in down there

kvogt 11-26-2019 01:30 PM

Did you weigh all the stuff you took out of the cabin.

On my flat deck I picked up a solid 8 mph by removing the cabin liner and putting in a light weight stick built cabin with extra bulkheads.

division1 11-26-2019 02:19 PM

I did it was right at 1000 pounds with everything I took out I’m going to do a very light layup upfront I’m going to add some for bulkhead ceiling to stringers just Stiffen a few things up and 2 facing benches Going for a pretty straightforward simple cabin we don’t sleep on it much I don’t know if I will pick up 8 mph but I would be happy with 4 or 5 lol

Full Force 11-26-2019 09:31 PM

Lol oops

division1 11-27-2019 08:44 AM

Yep lol all good tho making real good progress. We’re going to spend about 8 hours in there Saturday sanding and grinding. Hopefully next week start putting in bulk heads and gel coating down there.

division1 11-27-2019 04:51 PM

division1 11-27-2019 04:52 PM

Only had a bout 2 hours today before I had to be at work at 7am lol but I got most of the interior boards that were glass on to side and top cut off almost ready to suit up and spend 20 hours grinding entire cabin springs coming fast !!!!

thisistank 11-27-2019 05:13 PM

HOLY CRAP! That's insane. More power to you brotha. Love this thread!

I see you posted the pics of that Gun Phil redid. Just for your consideration - I really like how he does these cabins. He'll do a half cover girl (no bed) and bring the zipper part up closer to where the bed would start. Then through the zipper he puts a porta potty, benches and storage. It turns the bow portion of the cabin into an enclosed head / changing room / storage room. Very good use of the area and you could put hefty bulkheads where the zipper portion is. It's similar to the way Robs Tiger is too except Rob has an actual door if I'm not mistaken. Just another option for you to think about since you're going that direction.

mine is the full cover girl with a sleeping area. however this winter its getting redone. all the foam on the sides and roof foam backing had delaminated... i could bring it back and move the divider but i like ability to lay down if needed.

jeff32 11-27-2019 06:20 PM

nice progress! but yes, does not seems like it but spring is just around the corner ! better not waste anytime ! :)

keep it up!

division1 11-27-2019 07:23 PM

Thanks for the pics that’s exactly what I’m thinking. Just happy to have that liner gone. I’ve been working on it every available hour lol. Anyone know best place to get tanks from? I thought I had a place turns out there a super long wait. Anyone thoughts on moving port Moter forward 12 inches. That cabin is going to be very light. I am going to shorten the fuel tanks and put them all the way up to that step bulk head. That will take 30 inches from the rear off.

speicher lane 11-28-2019 09:00 AM

I don't know if you are following many of the other threads but KWright's thread covering the rebuild/rerigging of the 42 Fountain Poker run has detailed pics under the deck with the bulkheads (no cabin). Just putting it out there for nothing more than a possible different bulkhead design than what you were contemplating - post 376

Anyone ever moved up a moter using a Konrad drive ? Think moving up port moter 12 inches would help balance boat with cabin weigh reduced ?

i dont think it would be worth the time or money to do that. a short stagger was in some of the 41 apaches. as heavy as the earlier boats are i dont think that you will have an issue. besides of the 1000 you took out, youre going to add a few hundred back with the couches and such.

division1 11-28-2019 03:34 PM

Sounds like that’s what a lot of guys are saying. Can’t wait to see how it runs know should be a much better ride with out that liner bouncing around down there

if you go stagger, I assume your going with a driveshaft, seems you will need a drive line input flange in the transom assembly as well as a different tail housing on the transmission with an output flange, with that being said and if true it would seem not worth the change
