i use both,,the rite stuff is real touchy,,if both surfaces are not wiped doen real good it wont stick were as the ultra will. i wont use the rite stuff on diff or oil pans and valve covers..the thin metal bends out of shape when taking it apart..

Sounds like we have a lot of differing opinions on what stuff to use, what works best, etc. Likely that there are several ways to skin this cat. I appreciate all of the opinions, and I apologize to ICD for taking this thread in a totally different direction. Probably should have started a separate one. I might have to do that when I report my results. Hopefully I'll have an answer for us tomorrow.

Uhhh I've seen many bent and twisted oil pan and differential covers from rtv. But that's whatever. I like the right stuff because its easy to use you can lay down a very controlled and nice bead. As far as Bud's situation what I've learned from years of use with sealants is its important to have a relatively clean surface doesn't have to be perfect and I think more important is buying a product that hasn't been sitting on a shelf for a long time. When I buy sealants and what not I go to high volume stores that the product gets rotated. The stuff does go bad sitting on the shelf. If I pick up a package and it has any dust on it or looks faded it goes back on the shelf.

There's gasket makers, and gasket sealers. Using a sealer to replace a gasket, doesn't work well.

Right stuff is an anaerobic sealer which will cure without the presence of air. Rtv needs air to cure (aerobic). I too have found right stuff to work better than rtv where the surface may have some oil residue . Right stuff is more along the lines of ultra Grey or ultra copper, just better imo. I don't use sealants that smell like vinegar too much anymore.

When I first got my boat my bilge used to look like a Murder scene with oil leaks... I never thought Right Stuff would seal it from the OUTSIDE.. but I goobed it on and no more leaks.. I was pretty impressed.
No set up..Budman.. just use it

it works gr8 on intake manifolds and i do use allot of it,,i just dont use it on thin sheet metal parts because it wont come loose too easy and you will bend the s hit out of the sheet metal its atached to...i never had ant leaks with ultra either if both surfaces are cleaned properly and have no left over grease film..
