Sure, all it'll cost is gas money.:drink:

That would be a Subourbon. I grew up around a Chevy dealership and I know my chit.

I'd buy a sled but I'm saving my money for Fountain stock and Whipples, and short sportmasters, and Herings. Ahh fock it, I'll just do a staggered 38 instead. :drink:

Dave, I've got a 96 z440 cat out in the barn send me a primary clutch and I'll have the kid fix it up for you :drink: It's air cooled very reliable, windshield removed so it goes faster....It'll make you feel like your in your boat at WOT. Oh and it's got more studs in the track than those ice drag guys have - kid got bored one day. At loeast you'll be able to stop on the hard pack.

I'm thinking that Thundercat I've got my eye on will do the trick!!

Thing is, how do I know if I'm even going to like riding? I need to get out there and give it a shot. Between the bikes, four wheelers, cars, and boats, it shouldn't be a problem adapting. Just gotta justify the time vs. money. How much will it cost vs. how much am I going to be able to get away?

Either way...count me in!

vs. Boating it's a dirt cheap endeavor! Call Jake he can probably hook you up with a monster sled with nitrous or a turbo / supercharger set up.

Been speaking with Jake on a regular basis. That's where the Thundercat is...

As for vs. boating...yea, but I use the boat alot compared to having a sled sit in my garage 51 weeks out of the year...

Honestly I agree, for many years I kept two sleds and a trailer around all the time. Had the reason to have two, and we did use them a lot. Lots of weekends at our hunting camp and rode most every weekend as long as we had snow. Things are different, and I doubt I would ever use a sled as much now.

An option here would be going to an area where snowmobiling is a big deal, many places have rentals available. Such as in Rock Stars neck of the woods, I'm sure you could do a rental deal out there. Years ago I bought a sled from Big Moose Yamaha and they had a rental deal. I wouldn't mind a vacation deal and rent just for chits and grins.

There's lots of rentals out here in Michigan as well, but don't expect it to be the latest and greatest and no where near the fastest. typically 400-600cc depending on where you go.

Question for you .....

What is the best way to get to the area you are refering to? Is it best to cross into Canada and goto London Ont. area or a little higher and go to top of Lake Saint Clair area or drive around the bottom of Erie and up from there?

Skip the under lake Erie route, it'll add a good 6-8 hours to the trip. Myself I'd hit 401 depending on where your at it maybe shorter to cross over in Buffalo as opposed to the TI Bridge. then take 402 in London to Sania crossing back into the US at Port Huron. Then it would be 69 to 475 in flint then north up 75. From A-Bay to my place it's 450 miles I'm about 45 minutes west from Port huron and 5 min. north of 69. takes about 8 hours with customs. From my place to the UP (Mackinaw Bridge) about 3 1/2 - 4 hours. Depending on where in the UP you end up it'll vary Sue st marie hour north from the bridge to the western end about 4-5 hours. If you take the far northern route and come back down into the UP, I think you maybe at mother natures mercy.

Another thought is to start with Old Forge and see how our non-sled owners weather and then go from there as whether or not we are going to make a road trip for approx. 8hrs.

Just a thought ....

It makes no difference to me ...... I can take up to three sleds and four guys very comfortably in the Crewmax.

That's what I figured it would take ...... when I picked up my boat we crossed at the Port Huron Crossing coming from the Buffalo Crossing ..... it took approx. 4-5 hours if I remember correctly from Rochester one way.
So if I am understanding you .... this is still a 8hr. trip before we unload to ride.

When I do the UP trips I usually plan the first and last days for the road i.e. drive up Monday get a room, unload sleds etc. hit the trails tue-thur, load up Friday and head back home. lower half I'll drive up and ride same day.

There you go, not a nickle in it so you can drive it like you stole it.

Has to be someplace in the Old Forge area that does rentals, snowmoliling is big biz down there.

I thinking of a great ride ..... start somewhere in Old Forge ... two ways to go .... one big loop ..... straight up the tracks to Charlies Inn (Saranac Lake area) continue north ... there are a number of quick routes you can take end up in Pete's place stay over in that area .... then start to head back down cross over to the hill .... south to Booneville back up to Old Forge or vice versa.
Something along that line ...... There are a number of very cool places to see along the way ie Cranberry Lake .... Norrigewock Inn ..... Dumasis(? i think that is how you spell it) .... Pine Tree in Brantingham .....

Jeff

5PMSMWHR 10-28-2008 06:08 PM

Dumas' , cool... I've spent some quality time staying at a camp ('tini time) right on the trail in Childwold (sp) very familiar with Cranberry. We used to also ride for a few years in St Regis Falls, old stagecoach stop, bar on the first level, 2nd restaraunt and third was rooms. Used to rent the whole place the weekend of the daytona 500

Mine was the daily driver, 2000 Ram. Had the oil changed about three weeks ago, tried opening the hood the other day. Just wasn't happening, was planning on taking it back cause they were the last ones under it. So first thing in the a.m. stop by state farm then of to the oil change place and see if they'll own up:rolleyes:

Good luck with the oil change place. If ya need advice, Axa used to work at a Jiffy Lube before going into financial planning, (hell, he might be going back) I'm sure he could explain the policy on guys coming back 3 weeks later looking for a free hood and windshield :evilb:

I skipped the lube shop, just went to the insurance company made the claim and dropped it off at a body shop about an hour ago. Still have an issue with the tires loosing air that I'll take up with them afterwards. Yes they put the tires on also. I thought it would make for an interseting converstion if I had gone there first, but then again they might ban me from returning and they have some of the best prices in town. On the other hand I know cheap never wins.:drink:

Wrong "Guy"...not me. I owned several Jiffy Lube stores, but never got my hands dirty. Sure your not having flashbacks about your old job that I gave you dragging your knuckles?

Well it seems you have the photographic evidence that they for sure should be "Your Guys". Nothing like a winning combo of CHEAP and QUALITY WORK. Maybe your tire deal is that they didn't actually charge you for the air, they saved you even more money. Hell a tire can only be flat on one side, right?

Gotta run for a bit, the N'Obama infomercial just came on. I want to see how we are all going to be saved. And how much I stand to gain in the wealth distribution. Back later, hopefully wealthier!

Actually can't blame them as the guys that changed the trans a couple of years ago forgot to close the hood prior to the test drive. Hence incident number one that left small creases and slightly tweaked hinges. $400.00 to fix it on them or knock $400.00 off the bill. opt for the $400.00 off and just slam it a litte harder to close. Sooooo a few years later and here's where I am. I've also heard there's a recall or investigation into 2000-2001 Rams for hood issues. But, I still can't blame them. I guess it boils done to, in life chit happens, enjoy it while you can:ernaehrung004: You only live once ride hard fast or slow it don't matter as long as it's all good:ernaehrung004::drink::ernaehrung004:

Two would be a couple, several would be three or more. So why would you drop out of that deal? Where were they? Might not be the Mickey Ds of the auto service world, but it's gotta be at least the Arbys.

Well the N'Obama infomercial was enlightening, NOT. The man has many wonderful and socially beneficial plans, except for the master plan of how to pay for it. I guess that is hooked in with the "Wealth Distribution" deal that for some strange reason he forgot to include. And we have a new threshold for the no tax cut off which started at 250K, was then dumped to 150K, and now has settled in at 200K. Must be those bi-partisan talents he claims to posess surfacing already. Now I'm not real smart, but I am real puzzled how he plans to run a government that is going into debt faster than at any time in history while collecting taxes on 100% of its current base when he plans to dump out 80% +/- into some new super saver program, and at the same time plans to spend billions more on all these new and wonderful programs. Can someone explain this? Cause I must be missing something here.

Now don't be picking on my buddy VV ! He's doing his part in trying to get the economy going again, you can just call down to Texas and ask old Leon. This boy keeps the cash in circulation!!! Though I have no real knowledge, I suspect his discretionary income is up there.
