Dave I went through their Data sheets ,aside from them crying about Gurit and the corecell M foams, the only thing I would recommend is using a H-100 you should be safe there on the hull Side,Now the bottom I would go with the H-130 to have a reasonable margin of safety.

They have a lot of material, but again the H is the only one to have some history.

Here is the R63.80 Airex.

There is nothing close except, A 550 Corecell. Now that said, this is the reason I went with the heaver "H" core since I had only Diabs Cupboard to root around in.

Thanks again Steve for the info on the Diab products that helped out a lot on that project.

Very interesting to read the thread. When you you started to build composite boats I think I was still steam bending oak frames and clench nailing lap strake planking.

I always seemed to be about 15 years behind you. First with Flats Skiffs and now Catamarans. Let me know what's in your bag now, so that when I turn 75 I will know what to do next.

Jim

I remember very well you demonstrating the water tubing level you described using a 5 gallon reservoir. Can you believe that was twenty five years ago? As a teenager I tried clear plastic tubing, but no reservoir to level a canoe mold and it drove me crazy.

Later when I was in High school, My Dad who had been a surveyor for the Pennsylvania Rail Road prior to WW II, served on our communities school board when they built a swimming pool. He specified a "Fast Pool", meaning that the gutter tiles had to be within 1/4" of the water level so when the swimmers completed a lap the waves they made would drop into the gutter easily and there would be no resurgent bounce to "Slow" the swimmers on their return. Fast Pools for Dummies would suggest to use The Koss water level scheme or fill the pool and mark it before setting the tiles. The contractor had shot the curb with an engineer level. My dad checked it and it was "perfectly level", but the water was "off". This caused great consternation. I was into celestial navigating with a sextant and the first thing you learn is that the earth is round. They shot a level line to set the curb, tangent to where the transit level was set, but the earth and the water is round, and dropped away so the water was only close to the curb at the end closest to where the Level was set up.

You see Steve, all this time, the reason your boats are so "Fast" and not "slow" is that you have been setting up your mold stations to be "water friendly" all these years !!!!!!!!

Note: for a 6' tall man standing on the beach, the horizon he sees is only 3 miles away. After that, you fall off the edge.

Jim Great Post, There was a guy doing some precise contract work for the navy; anyway they came in during his setup and asked him, how he was compensating for the change in his building when the tide came in, this since the place was on the water, he said there was no measurable change, they left “Their” indicator there and low and behold there was tidal caused deflection, this was a while back.

Forget where I heard that story, most likely in a mad search of equipment splitting degrees into many pieces and fractions.

Water, I have always preferred that to about everything I have including the high-end lasers, plus it does not flash you and one man can use it, does not need cleaning or repair will not ever wear out, maybe some of the same water that the Egyptians and Greeks used.
