Sigh, here we go. Please provide a link to ANY CTS built in europe and shipped back the the US. If your going to run your mouth atleast get your **** straight. And you want to know why the handfull of posters on this thread are attempting trying to expaine the ignorence of the outspoken big 3 detractors? Non fact based opinions like yours. I would suggest Google on the first attempt for fact finding.
The generations before the cts WAS just a rebadged Opel, my mistake. But my assumption is not unwarranted!!!
Still you believe I am a detractor of the big, but in fact I am a defender of my rights to purchase what I see value in.
I could no longer afford to drive a truck from the big 3, that's a fact. The down time and repair cost were eating me alive. I'd love to support you guys, and keep food on your table but I just can't anymore. I have it my best shot. You could leave the uaw and move to Texas, work in the no unionized tundra plant...then we wouldn't have these arguments.

The engines in your boat were built in the 60's? I know, low hanging fruit, but questioning GM's " antiquated" push rod technology is just palin ignorenent. The lSx engines produced from 1997 on are proven as soom of the most dependable engines in the world as well as lightest, most compact and lowest center of gravity for HP potential.
The lsx engine is a great one! Please tell me what parts it shares with the sbc and bbc of the 60's-90's?
That was a counter to you calling my boat a Chevy cause it has a gm based block. My boat did nothin for the uaw, of Chevrolet.
Why did merc tool new engines for the 1100 and 1350 if the bbc tech is forever lasting?

We all grew up as GM kids. But after all of that my 82 year old Dad still holds on to a '78 Toyota Cressida that has that bad a$$ inline 6 that was in the Supras years ago. He loves the thing...it has over 300.000 miles on it and will still break 100!!! I felt so bad about him driving around in the damn thing...air doesn't work, power windows won't go up and down, etc....so I bought him an off lease MB E 350. He loved it but traded it in on a Cadillac CTS V with a 6 speed!!! He has bad knees and the clutch works on him a little but he's an old hot rodder and "drives what he want's to drive". He still goes back and forth driving the Toyota because "it's the only rear wheel drive sedan they built" and it feels right. I don't argue with him.....he always wins. BP discovered oil on the family farm so he is a little free with money at his age and I asked him what his preference is of all the cars he ever owned. He said he's looking for a '57 Chevy 4 door hard top with a "Power Pack" 283 with a 3 speed manual transmission. He tells me..."Son after 82 years I still come back to this fact...Detroit makes the best cars in the world...period."
Hard to argue with that.

I can't say I will never own big 3 again. My next hobby will most likely be classic muscle cars.

The big difference between you and me is a I don't a rat's ass what you buy, I am after a more reliable vehicle and have found it in everything I have owned that wasn't made by the big 3. I buy what I want based on my experience, with my American made money.
I am not hear trying to get people to buy Toyota, I am here defending my right to own something that I see is better than what I have purchased in the past. Yes it bothers me that a truck you uaw ass suckers won't sit in or drive you will call jap scrap. But who cares, keep buying what you buy, it keeps my customers in business!
I've said it before, the car world is a GLOBAL MARKET. Yet you try to show biased stats to make the big 3 sound better, my stats are showing that is more equal than you think.
I never said once that Toyota is doing more for the USA than the big 3, I just said they are doing enough to earn my business.
Times have changed. The japs, Koreans, Germans, stole our market share cause we let them buy not producing a competitive product. In the past 4 years the big 3 have made more improvements and innovations than they have made in 20 years! Just in time too, cause if the competition stole the rental car, program car, and truck market all 3 will be out of business! And the new generation doesn't care about name, they will buy anything...so better make something of value!
Btw. I do like the uaw effect on the economy. Back when we had the fisher guide, and new process gear factory here those guys blew every dime they made! Was great for the economy. Don't miss seeing them on the lake bragging about how they thought they made more money than anyone, wonder where they are now?

Speaking of Germans I bought my daughter a 2009 Mercedes 2yrs later 100k junk interior exterior junk also traded it for a Jeep she's a lot happier!!No brag just fact!Also American cars are 1000 times better!!Remember the buy japan steel days!!Nuk Nuk!Thats before your time !!I owned almost every car the worst were English? time!

Second, your premise of "global market" implying it's fair is exactly what I've shown IS NOT TRUE. Read the links, actually learn about how other countries operate and you'd realize there is no "free trade", there is just "free sell" into the US, not into Asia! The market wasn't just "stolen" because of their superior intellect or some absurd notion you seem to have. A 30% currency advantage, gov't paid retirement and no legacy costs will certainly help you out (since you seem to have skipped all the important posts laying this out).

That is a great story! I agree our post ww2 cars can't not be beat! Right up til about the 80's. And that is just it, we owned the world! Cars, TVs, electronics, we were cutting edge because we were better and could not be beat. What happened? It that's right, everyone started buying jap cause of marketing, my bad
