The New Jersey Performance Powerboat Club's Atlantic City Poker Run ran 21 times - 1998 through 2018. Following its 2018 season, the club disbanded for several of the factors Matt detailed.

I don't have a lot of time in either the VR1 or 290 models so I'd "guess" around 50 MPH. Padraig owns a VR1 so he should better be able to provide an answer.

It varies with the boat model. Generally the smaller boats rise up faster than the larger, heavier boats so my experience is anywhere between 45+ MPH to 65+ MPH depending on boat size.

Lukes - Best of luck with the prop swap. Hope that works for you. As Padraig advised, are you able to trim up enough? Where are you on the trim gauge? If you can't over trim to the where your...

As Padraig said, you're running pretty slow. If your tach is reading correctly(?) and your drive is a 1.5 ratio(?), the ~30% slip is way too high for a pad bottom Velocity hull. As SB suggested...

The Merc Max 5 sounds like a winner and I may try one on my 280. Interesting on how the Max 5 has strong top end on the 280 but not on a 290 that I tested on a Velocity photo shoot (Ilmor 625...

I agree with all of Brad's points. The relay is a less laborious "work around" opposed to rewiring the DPPT switch which is tight with 6 physical connections and requires some new long wiring runs....

My experience has been that the relay mounted "near" the hatch ram with larger wire at least doubles the speed of a slow ram. The slow ram is a consequence of a longer power wire run to and from the...

I've always mounted my hatch relays in a plastic "project box" in the section under the rear seat. I just used an in-line fuse. If you have a dead battery you can then access the relay to jump from...

I assume your drive isn't a dual water pick up. Perhaps there's blockage between engine and sea water pump typically at a cooler. You may want to back flush.

That is peculiar especially for twin drive. I had a 320 (not the 322 which used the original 30' hull) with factory mounted tabs and when I lowered one tab, it leaned as expected (which is...

I had the same situation which was resolved by installing a new mechanical fuel pump on the seawater pump. The engine needs a good mechanical fuel pump to overcome a vapor lock situation.

Like with any 40 year old boat, closely inspect the transom, stringers and cockpit floor. The engine hatch wood can be soft from rain water and perhaps the rear bench seat wood frame. Don't...

Congrats on the 390 puchase. I've enjoyed mine for 20+ years now!

21% slip is way too much - your props probably need some work. You are also likely hitting your rev limiter at ~5,400. I run...

The 390 is a true 39' foot hull as it's a cut down (lower freeboard) version of the 410. Assuming that the 40' Raptor was based on the 390 the bustle may have added about a foot.
