I think an updated 7.3 with common rail injection would be a great motor. However, the 7.3 was a product of International so I doubt that Ford would go back to an outside supplier for their engines....

I wouldn't worry too much about dark trans fluid but I would recommend replacing it with Allison Transynd. Those transmissions can take a beating and still operate fine at stock power....
