Leave them on. They are there for a reason. Without them the boat will chine walk uncontrollably at higher speeds. I tried it many years ago!

I did the helicoil kit on my '90 29 fountain about 18-19 yrs ago. Sold it to a friend of mine about 15 yrs ago and I think they are still good. I still have the kit and 4 coils in my tool box!

When I bought my 29' I wanted a 42, when I bought my 35' I wanted a 42. Bought a 42 9+yrs ago and still have it. It would be hard to go smaller unless getting into another type of boat all together...

They are great to handle due to light weight, but, mine turned to dust in two years. I went back to heavy canvas for less than half the cost and have had it for about 6yrs.
