I sell boats for a living, and have sold alot of boats with 496's. Just my 2 cents, but there is a reason they have gone back to the 8.2 block. 496 are just as susceptible to failure.

Yes that is correct, BUT its not the best idea. When a drive has a 99% of its stress going one way, and then you go the opposite way, usually things dont hold up. Dropping a ring off of the gearset...
