The best way is going to be diverting a part of the sound through the Y pipe IF you have one. Those slip ins above won't have that great of sound and will really hurt your performance.

Also, it would be very interesting to know what cam the newer 520 is using. Relatively short risers on a manifold from the factory. You can be sure that reversion isn't an issue with that cam.

I don't think that it is the filter pad itself that is restrictive, but its the fittings/threads on the inlet/outlet that are a choke point.
