With its acquisition of Doller Offshore Marine in late March, Performance Boat Center established an instant beach head in South Florida. That was something Brett Manire and Mark Waddington, the owners of the Osage Beach, Mo., Cigarette Racing Team, Sunsation Boats and Wright Performance full-service dealership, had been after for some time.
In short, Performance Boat Center of South Florida was born.
But in purchasing Hollywood, Fla.-based Doller, Manire and Waddington acquired more than the company’s physical assets, which include its 15,000-square-foot headquarters. They retained the services of Mindi Doller and Martin Sanborn, a pair of respected marine industry veterans.
“It’s been excellent, working with Brett and Mark,” said Doller. “They’ve freed me up so I can focus on sales, which is what I’ve always loved to do and have done best in the middle of everything else. And Martin is doing a fantastic job heading up operations. It’s all just fantastic.”
If Doller seems enthusiastic, she is—and not just because she’s now able to focus on her strengths as a salesperson, or that the final responsibility for all facets of the business for the past 20 years has been lifted off her capable shoulders. Already, there are big changes happening, the first of which will come to life next week in the form of a new 10,000-square-foot showroom and storage facility in nearby Dania Beach.
“It’s just west of the Fort Lauderdale airport,” said Doller. “I’ll still have some showroom space in the Hollywood location but most of that space will be dedicated to service.
“And we are probably going to add another 4,000 square feet of space in Dania Beach at some point in the not-too-distant future,” she added.
Although it likely won’t be completed until fall, the Hollywood location also will get what Doller described as a complete facelift. And that’s not all.
“We are ‘cleaning her up’ a little bit,” Doller said, then laughed. “I am also looking for another Florida-based brand of fishing boat. People here love the Sunsation center consoles because they’re sport and run great, but we also have a lot of diehard anglers here in the market for true fishing boats.
“We’re also absolutely looking to build our pre-owned boat inventory,” she continued. “We need clean, used boats like you wouldn’t believe.”
And come next week, Performance Boat Center of South Florida will have plenty of space for all of it.
With its new showroom opening next week, Performance Boat Center of South Florida will have fresh floor space for its new and pre-owned inventory.
